PROFILE

Lynne Wilson Design produces interior products and larger installations in the architectural and public realm. Designs exploit the tensions created by combining the at times opposing conceptual and practical applications of craft and design.

This series of work explores ideas around the visual representation of how we create order and structure within the complex and multi-layered nature of our individual lives and human existence.

It looks at the levels of control we work to achieve and maintain in the different areas of our lives, and how those controls create 'patterns': directions that guide us.

As in the creation of a design, we are always dealing with the known and the unknown. We need to constantly evaluate each element in order to maintain balance in the favour of order, keeping chaos at bay.

These ideas are represented through the use of familiar craft materials and techniques combined with new and unfamiliar technologies that can evoke wariness and distrust, or intrigue and surprise.

Influences:

Bridget Riley - "..my work was really about stabilities and instabilities, certainties and uncertainties."
Daniel Libeskind - 'unduly assertive','progressive' architecture
Sarah Morris - "Her work is a visualization of the almost imperceptible interweaving of power and daily urban routine''

Using an approach that is both logical and intuitive, designs are developed through written and visual research and rely on hand-drawing, model-making, grids, repetition, layering and collage to create graphic and visually rich designs of varying complexity.

Successful designs are then translated to CAD for production through laser cutting and 3d printing technologies.

Designs are modular and can be recreated in different combinations of form, materials, colour and scale to produce a unique site-specific piece or installation.

Lynne has over 15 years experience working as a designer and project manager across the creative industries, most recently for leading agencies and global brands on conceptually driven interior and 3d design projects.
